Scientists investigate if microbiome imbalance fuels head and neck cancer

NCT ID NCT05837221

First seen Feb 27, 2026 · Last updated May 17, 2026 · Updated 14 times

Summary

This study looks at whether an imbalance in the natural bacteria in your mouth and gut (called dysbiosis) plays a role in head and neck cancer. Researchers will collect stool and saliva samples from 60 adults—some with cancer and some without—to compare their microbiomes. The goal is to understand how these bacteria might affect cancer development, not to test a treatment.
