Summary
This study tested whether giving metoprolol, an FDA-approved heart medication, right after surgery and during hospital recovery can reduce heart damage in people with coronary artery disease. The trial involved 72 adults aged 50 and older who were not already taking beta-blockers. Researchers measured heart injury using daily blood tests and monitored for major heart events like heart attack or cardiac death.
