Common diabetes drug may shield schizophrenia patients from statin side effect

Summary
This study is testing if adding the diabetes medication metformin can help people with schizophrenia who need cholesterol-lowering statins. Statins can raise blood sugar and diabetes risk, which is a particular concern for this group. Researchers will give 400 participants either metformin or a placebo along with their statin for six months to see if metformin improves blood sugar control and metabolic health.
