First seen Jan 17, 2026 · Last updated Apr 25, 2026 · Updated 16 times
Summary
This study tests whether metformin, a diabetes drug, can help treat depression in people living with HIV. Depression is common in HIV and can make it harder to stick with life-saving HIV medication. The trial will enroll 600 adults in Uganda and compare metformin to placebo, and also test it alongside the antidepressant fluoxetine. The goal is to see if metformin improves mood and reduces inflammation.
