Stress and the heart: new study targets women with hidden chest pain
NCT ID NCT05401630
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at how mental stress impacts the small blood vessels of the heart in postmenopausal women with coronary microvascular dysfunction (CMD). Researchers will measure heart activity, stress responses, and daily symptoms in 150 women using imaging, questionnaires, and home monitoring. The goal is to understand why stress triggers chest pain in these women, not to test a new treatment.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this study could reveal how mental stress worsens heart symptoms in women with small vessel disease, pointing toward better management strategies.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It will not directly improve health, and results may not apply to all women.
