Which scan is better for spotting brain tumors? tiny study aims to find out

NCT ID NCT04298541

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study will compare two types of PET scans (using different radioactive tracers) in 6 adults with suspected meningioma who are scheduled for surgery. Each person will get both scans at least 24 hours apart. The goal is to see which tracer gives clearer images of the tumor, which could help doctors better diagnose and plan treatment.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Ga-68-DOTATATE and Ga-68-DOTATOC (radioactive tracers for PET scans)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could help determine which tracer is better for detecting meningioma, potentially improving diagnosis and treatment planning.

What could go wrong

This is a very small, early-phase study with only 6 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. It focuses on imaging comparison, not treatment.
