New MRI technique may eliminate need for contrast dye in brain tumor screening

NCT ID NCT04113408

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated Jun 15, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study tested whether special MRI sequences (FABIR) can spot meningiomas without using gadolinium contrast, which can build up in the body after many injections. Researchers compared the new method to standard contrast MRI in 315 adults undergoing screening or follow-up for meningioma. If successful, this approach could reduce risks for patients who need repeated scans, such as those on certain long-term medications.
