Can a simple supplement speed up fracture recovery in seniors?
NCT ID NCT06050668
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This phase 2 trial tests whether a 4-week course of an essential amino acid supplement can help older adults (65+) rebuild muscle after a hip fracture. Sixty participants will be randomly assigned to receive either the supplement or standard care alone. Researchers will measure muscle changes through biopsies and body scans, and track physical function for up to 6 months.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Essential amino acid supplement with vitamins and minerals
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a simple nutritional supplement to help older adults regain muscle strength and mobility after a hip fracture.
What could go wrong
This is a small early-phase trial with only 60 people, so results may not apply to everyone. The supplement may not improve recovery beyond standard care.
