Can a hormone drug help restore skin color in vitiligo?
NCT ID NCT07437560
First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This Phase 2 study tests whether adding Melanotan II (a synthetic hormone-like drug) to standard narrowband UV-B light therapy helps restore skin color in adults with stable nonsegmental vitiligo. About 60 participants will receive either the drug or a placebo, plus light therapy, for several months. Researchers will measure changes in skin pigmentation and track how quickly repigmentation occurs.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Melanotan II (a synthetic hormone-like drug) plus narrowband UV-B phototherapy
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a new treatment option to restore skin color in people with stable vitiligo.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early Phase 2 trial with only 60 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The drug may cause side effects or not improve repigmentation more than light therapy alone.
