Eye muscle width may predict surgery success for crossed eyes

NCT ID NCT07152964

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study will measure the width of the medial rectus tendon in 28 people having surgery for crossed eyes (esotropia). The goal is to see if tendon width is linked to how much the eye position changes after surgery. If a link is found, it could help surgeons plan more precise operations in the future.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could help surgeons better predict how much to adjust eye muscles during strabismus surgery, potentially improving results.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early observational study with only 28 people. It looks for a correlation, not a proven treatment change, so it may not lead to new guidelines.
