Could a Pupil-Scanning device reveal a Child's true pain?

NCT ID NCT07336264

Summary

This study is testing a new, non-invasive device that measures changes in a child's pupil size to try to get an objective reading of their pain. It involves 100 children and teens, aged 6 to 21, who are having planned surgery or a bone marrow transplant at Children's National Hospital. The goal is to see if this device can provide a clearer picture of pain than current methods, which often rely on a child's ability to describe it or a caregiver's observation.
