Can a simple massage reduce face swelling after cancer radiation?
NCT ID NCT07215169
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a special massage called manual lymph drainage can help reduce swelling in the face and neck caused by radiation therapy for head and neck cancer. The study will include 40 people who have finished radiation within the past year. It compares two different schedules of the massage to see which is more practical and safe to test in a larger future study.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Manual lymph drainage (a type of gentle massage)
What this could lead to
If this works, it could point toward a simple, drug-free way to reduce facial swelling after cancer radiation.
What could go wrong
This is a very small pilot study testing feasibility, not effectiveness. The results may not confirm benefit, and the treatment may not work for everyone.
