New knee implant aims to repair cartilage and avoid repeat surgery

NCT ID NCT07332182

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study compares a new scaffold implant (MaioRegen Prime) to standard surgical cleaning (debridement) for treating deep cartilage lesions in the knee. About 400 patients aged 18-60 with knee lesions will be randomly assigned to one of the two procedures. The main goal is to see if the implant leads to better knee function and fewer complications or repeat surgeries over two years.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

osteochondral scaffold implant (MaioRegen Prime)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could offer a better surgical option for people with knee cartilage damage, potentially improving function and reducing the need for repeat surgeries.

What could go wrong

This is an early-stage study with no phase designation, and the implant may not prove superior to standard debridement. Risks include surgical complications, implant failure, or no significant benefit.
