Could magnets soothe tennis elbow? new trial investigates

NCT ID NCT07444996

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether pulsed electromagnetic field therapy (magnetotherapy) can reduce pain and improve function in people with tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis). Forty adults aged 18–65 will receive either active magnetotherapy or a sham device, plus standard exercise, for three weeks. Researchers will measure pain, grip strength, and daily function at the start, end of treatment, and three months later.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy (Magnetotherapy) using a device delivering 50 Hz frequency and 85 Gauss intensity

What this could lead to

If it works, this could provide a non-invasive, drug-free option to ease pain and improve grip strength for people with tennis elbow.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 40 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The sham control group also receives exercise, so any added benefit from magnetotherapy may be small or absent.
