Shock wave or laser: which zaps tennis elbow pain best?
NCT ID NCT07564713
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study compares two noninvasive treatments—shock wave therapy and low-level laser therapy—for tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis). Fifty adults with at least six weeks of elbow pain will receive one of the treatments plus a brace and exercises. Researchers will measure pain, function, grip strength, and tendon thickness using ultrasound to see which approach works better.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Extracorporeal shock wave therapy and low-level laser therapy
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could show which noninvasive treatment works better for reducing tennis elbow pain and improving function.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial with only 50 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Both treatments are generally safe but may not provide lasting relief.
