Shock wave or laser: which zaps tennis elbow pain best?

NCT ID NCT07564713

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study compares two noninvasive treatments—shock wave therapy and low-level laser therapy—for tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis). Fifty adults with at least six weeks of elbow pain will receive one of the treatments plus a brace and exercises. Researchers will measure pain, function, grip strength, and tendon thickness using ultrasound to see which approach works better.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Extracorporeal shock wave therapy and low-level laser therapy

What this could lead to

If successful, this could show which noninvasive treatment works better for reducing tennis elbow pain and improving function.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 50 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Both treatments are generally safe but may not provide lasting relief.
