A gentle touch for swollen legs: could massage ease Late-Pregnancy edema?
NCT ID NCT07761741
First seen Aug 12, 2026 · Last updated Aug 13, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether adding manual lymphatic drainage massage to therapeutic exercises and compression garments helps reduce lower limb swelling in pregnant women during their third trimester. Sixty women aged 25-35 with mild-to-moderate swelling will be split into two groups: one receiving the full physiotherapy plan, and the other following routine care with compression garments only. The main outcome is the change in ankle and foot circumference, aiming to answer whether this combination offers better relief than standard care.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Manual lymphatic drainage massage combined with therapeutic exercises and compression garments
- What this could lead to
- If effective, this approach could offer pregnant women a drug-free way to reduce uncomfortable leg and foot swelling in the third trimester.
