New surgery aims to stop debilitating arm swelling in breast cancer patients
NCT ID NCT05970107
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests a surgical technique called lymphaticovenous bypass (LVB) to prevent lymphedema (arm swelling) in 400 breast cancer patients whose cancer has spread to lymph nodes. During standard lymph node removal, doctors will also reroute lymph vessels to veins, hoping to reduce the risk of painful swelling. The study compares patients who get LVB to those who don't, tracking arm measurements and symptoms for several years.
