First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This phase II trial tests two drugs, lurbinectedin and avelumab, in people with a rare and aggressive bladder cancer called small cell carcinoma. Participants who have already had a drug like avelumab will receive only lurbinectedin; others will get both. The study aims to see if these drugs can shrink tumors and control the disease for longer.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
lurbinectedin and avelumab
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a new treatment option for a rare and aggressive bladder cancer that has spread after initial therapy.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial with only 45 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The drugs can cause side effects, and it's unknown if they will work better than existing treatments.
