First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested a computerized decision-aid called SMILE that gives lupus patients information about their disease and treatment options. Nearly 1,900 adults with lupus from multiple clinics used the tool during their visits. The main goal was to see how many eligible patients actually used it and how acceptable clinic staff found it.

What this could lead to
If successful, this tool could help lupus patients and their doctors make better, shared treatment decisions.
What could go wrong
This study only measured how often the tool was used and how acceptable it was, not whether it improved health outcomes. Results may not apply to all clinics.
