Oxford scientists probe secrets of Life-Saving lung maneuver

NCT ID NCT05508724

Summary

This study aimed to better understand a common ICU procedure used to re-inflate collapsed lungs in patients on breathing machines. Researchers observed 48 critically ill adults to learn which measurements can predict if this 'recruitment maneuver' will successfully open the lung. The goal is to help doctors decide when and for whom this procedure is most beneficial, potentially improving survival and care in intensive care units.
