Ultrasound showdown: which scan best predicts fluid danger in prostate surgery?
NCT ID NCT07164638
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study will compare two ultrasound techniques—lung ultrasound and inferior vena cava collapsibility index—to see which one can predict fluid overload earlier in men undergoing transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP). Sixty male patients scheduled for TURP under spinal anesthesia will be monitored during surgery. The goal is to find a better way to spot fluid buildup before it becomes a problem.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help doctors better predict and prevent fluid overload during prostate surgery, improving patient safety.
What could go wrong
This is a small observational study, not a treatment trial. Results may not apply to all patients or settings, and the techniques may not be widely adopted.
