Ultrasound could spot lung trouble after esophageal surgery

NCT ID NCT05453760

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study looked at whether a bedside lung ultrasound can help predict breathing complications after surgery to remove esophageal cancer. 274 adults who had this surgery received ultrasound exams right after and one day after surgery. The goal was to see if ultrasound could catch problems like pneumonia or collapsed lungs earlier than standard methods, without needing to move the patient for a CT scan.
