Nudge study aims to boost lung cancer screening rates

NCT ID NCT05832008

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether sending text reminders to patients and alerts to their doctors can increase the number of people who get yearly lung cancer screening or follow-up tests. About 825 patients and their clinicians are taking part. The goal is to see if these simple nudges improve adherence to screening guidelines.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Patient and clinician nudges (text messages and EHR prompts)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could show simple reminders help more people get regular lung cancer screening and follow-up, potentially catching cancer earlier.

What could go wrong

This is a behavioral study, not a treatment trial. Results may vary by clinic and patient population, and nudges may not work for everyone.
