Lung cancer trial aims to zap tumors harder

NCT ID NCT02788461

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This trial tests whether giving a higher radiation dose to the most active parts of a lung tumor can better control the cancer. About 78 people with locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer will receive either standard chemoradiation or chemoradiation with an extra radiation boost. The study will compare how well each approach prevents the cancer from coming back in the chest over two years.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Radiation therapy with or without a boost dose
What this could lead to
If successful, this approach could reduce the chance of lung cancer returning in the chest after standard chemoradiation.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial with only 78 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. Higher radiation doses also carry a risk of increased side effects.
