New scan and dye aim to spot lung cancer more precisely during surgery
NCT ID NCT07498933
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a special PET/CT scan (FAPI-PET/CT) and a fluorescent dye can better predict how well lung cancer responds to pre-surgery therapy and help surgeons see tumors during operation. 200 adults with stage II-IIIB non-small cell lung cancer will receive the scan and dye before surgery. The goal is to improve accuracy in finding cancer tissue, which could lead to more complete removal of tumors.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
FAPI-PET/CT scan and fluorescent dye
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to more accurate tumor detection during lung cancer surgery, helping surgeons remove all cancer cells while sparing healthy tissue.
What could go wrong
This is an early diagnostic study, not a treatment. The imaging technique may not prove more accurate than current methods, and results may not apply to all lung cancer patients.
