Lung cancer drug matching: lab test could personalize treatment

NCT ID NCT07636252

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looks at whether testing lung cancer cells in a lab can predict which drugs will work best for each patient. Researchers will collect fluid from around the lungs of 400 people with lung cancer who need drainage for shortness of breath. They will grow the cancer cells in the lab and test different drugs to see if the results match the patient's genetic mutations and actual treatment response.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could help doctors choose the most effective drugs for lung cancer patients based on lab tests, leading to more personalized treatment.

What could go wrong

This is an early observational study, not a treatment trial. The lab tests may not accurately predict real patient outcomes, and results may not apply to all lung cancer patients.
