Could an asthma drug help fight lung cancer? early trial investigates

NCT ID NCT07675876

First seen Jun 30, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This pilot study tests whether an inhaled drug called cromolyn sodium, already used for asthma, is safe and feasible for people with locally advanced lung cancer. The drug works by calming mast cells, which may play a role in tumor growth and treatment resistance. About 5 to 10 participants will receive the drug via a dry powder inhaler and be monitored for side effects, tumor changes, and other health markers.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

cromolyn sodium (inhaled)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could point toward a new way to treat lung cancer by calming inflammation in the tumor environment.

What could go wrong

This is a very early, small pilot study with only 10 people. It is designed mainly to check safety, not to prove the drug works against cancer.
