Freeze and burn: new device targets lung cancer during bronchoscopy
NCT ID NCT07398027
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study is testing a device called the HybridTherm® system, which uses freezing and radiofrequency heat to destroy small lung tumors during a routine bronchoscopy. The procedure is done before the patient's planned surgery to remove the tumor. The main goals are to see if the device works as intended and to check for any serious bleeding. Only 20 people with early-stage lung cancer will take part.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- HybridTherm® System (device that combines freezing and radiofrequency heat to destroy tumors)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could provide a less invasive way to treat small lung tumors, potentially reducing the need for more extensive surgery.
- What could go wrong
- This is a very early, small study (20 people) focused on feasibility, not effectiveness. The procedure carries risks like bleeding, and it's unknown if it will work better than current treatments.
