Could a single zap of radiation tame a stubborn racing heart?

NCT ID NCT06743789

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study tests whether a single, lower dose of radiation can safely reduce episodes of ventricular tachycardia (a dangerous fast heart rhythm) in people who haven't been helped by standard treatments. About 40 adults with structural heart disease and recurrent VT will receive either one dose or three smaller doses of radiation. The goal is to see if a simpler, one-time treatment can cut VT episodes by at least 60% with acceptable side effects.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

radiation therapy (cardiac radioablation)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could offer a simpler, one-time radiation treatment to control life-threatening heart rhythms in patients who have not responded to standard therapies.

What could go wrong

This is a very early, small trial with only 40 participants, so results may not apply broadly. Radiation to the heart carries risks of side effects, and the lower doses might not be as effective as standard approaches.
