Triple therapy targets tough brain metastases in lung cancer
NCT ID NCT06431685
First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This early-phase study is testing whether a combination of low-dose radiation to the whole brain, an immunotherapy drug (PD-1 inhibitor), and chemotherapy given directly into the spinal fluid can safely treat lung cancer that has spread to the lining of the brain and spinal cord. The trial will enroll 10 adults aged 18-75 whose cancer has not responded to standard treatments. Researchers will monitor side effects and check if the cancer shrinks or stops growing.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Whole brain low-dose radiotherapy, pembrolizumab (PD-1 inhibitor), and pemetrexed (intrathecal chemotherapy)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this combination could offer a new treatment option for people with lung cancer that has spread to the brain and spinal cord lining, potentially improving survival and quality of life.
- What could go wrong
- This is a very early (Phase 1) and small study with only 10 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The combination of treatments may cause serious side effects, including brain inflammation or nerve damage.
