Ketamine may cut opioid use after major aortic surgery

NCT ID NCT04600089

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 06, 2026 · Updated 30 times

Summary

This study is testing whether a low dose of ketamine can reduce the amount of strong painkillers (opioids) needed and improve pain control in people recovering from thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR). About 30 adults scheduled for this surgery will receive either ketamine or a placebo alongside standard care. The goal is to see if ketamine can safely spare opioid use while managing pain effectively.
