Could a simple protein infusion limit stroke damage?
NCT ID NCT07415655
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This Phase 2 trial tests whether a low dose of albumin, a natural blood protein, can protect brain tissue after an ischemic stroke. One hundred participants will receive either albumin or a placebo during a standard procedure to restore blood flow. The goal is to see if albumin reduces brain injury and improves neurological outcomes over 90 days.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Albumin (human serum albumin)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could point toward a simple, safe treatment to limit brain damage after a stroke and improve patients' recovery.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early Phase 2 trial with only 100 people, so results may not be conclusive. The benefit over standard care is unproven, and albumin may not protect the brain as hoped.
