First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study looks at whether taking dutasteride for at least 6 months before HoLEP surgery for an enlarged prostate affects bleeding, operation time, and tissue removal. Researchers will compare 1,000 men who took the drug with those who did not. The goal is to help surgeons plan better based on medication history.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
dutasteride
What this could lead to
If it works, this could help surgeons know whether long-term dutasteride use reduces bleeding or improves efficiency during HoLEP surgery.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a controlled trial, so it can't prove cause and effect. Results may not apply to all patients or other prostate surgeries.
