Could a simple drug combo speed up recovery after colon cancer surgery?

NCT ID NCT07414706

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether giving lidocaine through a vein during surgery, plus injecting ropivacaine into the surgical cuts, helps people recover better after laparoscopic colon cancer surgery. About 182 adults will be randomly assigned to get either the lidocaine plus ropivacaine or ropivacaine alone. The main goal is to see if the combination improves overall recovery, pain, and the need for painkillers.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
lidocaine and ropivacaine
What this could lead to
If it works, this could lead to a simple, drug-based way to help people recover faster and with less pain after laparoscopic colon surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a moderate-sized phase 3 trial, but it only looks at short-term recovery after one type of surgery. The benefit may be small, and there is a risk of side effects from the drugs.
