Magnetic pulses to the brain may ease depression and sleep troubles
NCT ID NCT07638202
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This trial investigates whether adding low-intensity transcranial magnetic stimulation (Li-TMS) to standard antidepressant medication can improve depressive symptoms and sleep disorders in people with major depression. The study involves 40 participants who receive either real Li-TMS or a sham procedure, with both groups continuing their usual medication. Researchers also measure inflammation levels and brain-derived neurotrophic factor to explore how the treatment might work.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
low-intensity transcranial magnetic stimulation (Li-TMS)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a non-invasive add-on treatment for depression that also improves sleep and lowers inflammation.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 40 participants, so results may not apply widely. The treatment is experimental and may not outperform standard care.
