New hope: drug may shield breast cancer patients from dangerous side effect

NCT ID NCT07380646

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This phase II trial tests whether taking leucogen alongside standard ribociclib therapy can prevent severe neutropenia (dangerously low white blood cell counts) in women with early-stage hormone-positive breast cancer. About 94 participants will receive the combination and be monitored for four months. The goal is to see if leucogen can keep white blood cell levels safe, allowing patients to continue their cancer treatment without interruption.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

leucogen (a drug to boost white blood cell production)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a way to prevent dangerous drops in white blood cells during breast cancer treatment, allowing more patients to stay on their full therapy.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-phase trial with only 94 participants and no comparison group, so results may not hold up in larger studies. The drug itself may cause side effects like bone pain or allergic reactions.
