Could a hormone pill shorten the wait after a missed miscarriage?
NCT ID NCT07753655
First seen Aug 07, 2026 ยท Last updated Aug 07, 2026
Summary
This trial tests whether taking letrozole before misoprostol shortens the time to complete uterine evacuation in women with a missed abortion (a pregnancy loss where the embryo stops developing but remains in the uterus). About 74 women will be randomly assigned to receive either letrozole followed by misoprostol or misoprostol alone. The goal is to see if the pretreatment makes the medical evacuation faster and whether it is safe and effective compared to the standard approach.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- letrozole followed by misoprostol
- What this could lead to
- If effective, this approach could shorten the time needed for medical evacuation, potentially improving the experience and safety for women with missed abortion.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small trial, and the benefit may be modest or not confirmed. Letrozole may also carry side effects, and results may not apply to all patients.
