Left-Handed surgeons get their own training: does it help?

NCT ID NCT07533214

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looks at whether left-handed heart surgeons learn to place stitches on a simulator better when taught by a left-handed instructor instead of a right-handed one. About 30 left-handed surgeons and residents will be randomly assigned to either a left-handed or right-handed guided training session. Their speed and accuracy will be measured before and after to see which group improves more.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
left-handed tailored endoscopic simulation training
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to better training methods for left-handed surgeons, potentially improving surgical outcomes.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 30 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The training is on simulators, not real surgeries.
