Could a tiny hole in the heart fix post-surgery symptoms?

NCT ID NCT06547788

First seen May 13, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at whether making a small opening between the upper heart chambers during mitral valve surgery can prevent heart failure symptoms after the operation. It will enroll 50 adults with severe mitral regurgitation who are already scheduled for surgery. Half will get the standard surgery, and half will get the standard surgery plus the extra opening. The goal is to see if this extra step helps lower pressure in the heart and improves recovery.
