Needle-Free numbing gel could spare adults pain during stitches
NCT ID NCT07480135
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study tested whether a gel (LAT gel) applied to cuts can numb them as well as the standard numbing shots (lidocaine) before getting stitches. 70 adults with simple cuts in the emergency department took part. The goal was to see if the gel causes less pain during application while still providing good pain relief during stitching.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Lidocaine-adrenaline-tetracaine (LAT) gel
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a less painful, needle-free option for numbing cuts in adults, making emergency wound repair more comfortable.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed study (70 adults) that may not apply to larger or more complex wounds. The gel might not numb as well as injections for some people.
