New laser microscope could help surgeons save nerves during prostate cancer surgery

NCT ID NCT07541911

First seen Apr 30, 2026 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026

Summary

This study tests a new tool called LaserSAFE that uses a special microscope to scan the prostate right after it is removed during surgery. The goal is to see if it can quickly find cancer cells at the edge of the prostate, which helps surgeons decide whether it is safe to spare nearby nerves. About 693 men with prostate cancer who are not good candidates for nerve-sparing surgery will take part. If LaserSAFE works well, it could help more men keep their nerves without leaving cancer behind.
