New laser microscope could help surgeons save nerves during prostate cancer surgery

NCT ID NCT07541911

First seen Apr 30, 2026

Summary

This study tests a new method called LaserSAFE that uses a special microscope to scan the prostate right after it is removed during surgery. The goal is to see if it can quickly find cancer cells at the edge of the prostate, which helps surgeons decide whether to save or remove nearby nerves. About 693 men with prostate cancer who are scheduled for robot-assisted surgery will take part. The study compares LaserSAFE results with standard lab tests to see how accurate and fast the new method is.
