Laser zaps away reading glasses for Post-Cataract patients?

NCT ID NCT07384182

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tested a low-energy femtosecond laser (the Perfector device) to treat presbyopia in 19 people who already had monofocal lens implants from cataract surgery. The goal was to improve near and intermediate vision without harming distance vision. Participants were measured on how well they could read letters at 40 cm and 66 cm, and at 4 meters. The study is complete, but because it was small and had no comparison group, the results are preliminary.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

femtosecond laser device (Perfector)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a way to improve reading vision without glasses for people who already have standard lens implants after cataract surgery.

What could go wrong

This was a very small study (19 people) with no control group, so results may not apply widely. The procedure involves attaching a device to the eye with suction, which carries some risk of discomfort or minor injury.
