Laser power showdown: which setting smashes kidney stones best?
NCT ID NCT07393178
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study will compare two laser power settings (high vs low) during a minimally invasive surgery called mini-percutaneous nephrolithotomy for removing kidney stones larger than 20 mm. Seventy adults will be randomly assigned to one of the two laser groups. The main goal is to see which setting leads to a faster and safer procedure, measuring surgery time, complications, and stone-free rates at three months.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Holmium: YAG laser
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help surgeons choose the best laser power setting to remove large kidney stones more efficiently and safely.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 70 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The study hasn't started yet, and there is always a risk of complications like fever or bleeding.
