NCT ID NCT04145557
First seen Jan 07, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 31 times
Summary
This study looked at whether using a 980nm diode laser along with standard deep cleaning improves gum health and reduces body-wide inflammation in people with gum disease, including those who had a heart attack in the last 6 months. About 80 participants under 70 years old were divided into groups based on their gum and heart health. The laser treatment was added to standard scaling and root planing in the study groups. Researchers measured gum pocket depth, bleeding, and inflammatory markers in blood and gum fluid before treatment, at 2 weeks, and at 3 months after treatment.
