Laser acupuncture may ease common knee pain without drugs

NCT ID NCT07655258

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study investigates whether high-intensity laser acupuncture, combined with exercise, can reduce pain and improve knee function in people aged 18 to 25 with patellofemoral pain syndrome (front knee pain). Participants receive either real laser acupuncture or a sham laser, plus a standard exercise program, over four weeks. The goal is to see if the laser adds extra benefit for pain relief, daily function, and satisfaction.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

high-intensity laser acupuncture

What this could lead to

If effective, this approach could offer a non-invasive, drug-free option for reducing knee pain and improving function in young adults with patellofemoral pain syndrome.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with 60 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The sham laser group also receives exercise, making it hard to isolate the laser's true effect.
