Can a simple stitch during hysterectomy prevent future prolapse? new trial aims to find out.
NCT ID NCT04560543
First seen May 29, 2026 · Last updated Jun 15, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study tests whether adding a specific laparoscopic stitch (McCall suture) during a routine hysterectomy can prevent the top of the vagina from dropping later on (pelvic organ prolapse). About 114 women having a laparoscopic hysterectomy for non-prolapse reasons will be randomly assigned to get either the extra stitch or standard closure. Researchers will measure how well the vagina is supported after 5 years, and also check sexual function.
