Can shortening sentences help kids with down syndrome learn words faster?
NCT ID NCT06951516
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at how using very short, simple sentences (like single words or telegraphic speech) affects how young children with Down syndrome process language and learn new words. Researchers will show children pictures and play recordings of different types of sentences to see which ones help them understand and learn best. The goal is to find better ways to design early language interventions for children ages 2 to 7.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Linguistic simplification (single-word and telegraphic speech)
What this could lead to
If successful, this research could point toward more effective early language interventions for children with Down syndrome.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage observational study with only 30 participants. Results may not apply to all children with Down syndrome, and the study does not test a treatment or therapy.
