New study aims to ease knee surgery pain without opioids
NCT ID NCT07130552
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests two different nerve block combinations to control pain after total knee replacement. 120 adults will receive either a popliteal plexus block or a distal IPACK block, both combined with a femoral triangle block. The goal is to see which approach reduces opioid use and improves early recovery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
bupivacaine
What this could lead to
If successful, this could identify a better nerve block technique to reduce pain and opioid use after knee replacement surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study (120 people) comparing two similar techniques. The results may not apply to all patients, and there is a risk of nerve block side effects like weakness or rare allergic reactions.
