Battlefield injuries: new study seeks to predict chronic pain before it starts
NCT ID NCT07432685
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study follows 100 people with combat-related limb injuries to see if the mechanics of the injury—like force and direction—can predict who will develop chronic pain. Researchers will track pain levels at 3 and 6 months. The goal is to find early warning signs so doctors can step in sooner.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help doctors identify who is at high risk for chronic pain after limb injuries, leading to earlier and better pain management.
What could go wrong
This is an early observational study, not a treatment trial. It only looks at patterns, so it may not lead to direct changes in care. Results may not apply to non-combat injuries.
